Tuncay Şanli is a Turkish footballer who plays as a winger. He also can be used as a striker. Since 2002 Tuncay has been playing for the Turkey national team.
Tuncay Şanli was born on 16 January 1982 in Sakarya, Turkey. In 2000 the footballer began his career in professional football with Sakaryaspor which played in one of the lowest divisions of the Turkish Championship. During two seasons he took part in 66 matches and scored 13 goals for this team. Şanli’s good performance earned him a deal with a renowned Turkish club Fenerbahçe where he played until 2007. He won the Süper Lig title three times and established a record becoming the first Turkish footballer to score a hat-trick in the Champions League. He was given the nickname “Brave heart”.
In the summer 2007 Tuncay transferred to English side Middlesbrough. During two seasons he made 70 appearances and found the net 16 times. From 2009 to 2011 he featured for Stoke City which purchased him for a fee of ₤5 million.
In January 2011 Şanli moved to Germany where he joined Wolfsburg. After half a year the football player was farmed out to Bolton Wanderers, and in 2012 he sealed a deal with Turkish outfit Bursaspor. In 2014 Sanli switched for Umm Salal.
