A Brazilian footballer Welinton Souza Silva was born on 10 April 1989 in Rio de Janeiro.
Welinton came from the youth department of Flamengo. He entered the club’s academy in 2007 and started to study football in its minutest details. His talent and diligence were soon noticed by the coaches of the club’s senior team.
In 2008, Silva started to make occasional appearances at the senior level and finally in 2009 he graduated to Flamengo’s first squad. In the same year, Welinton won Taça Rio and Rio de Janeiro State League. In 2010, the footballer revealed his potential and started to get offers from the various European clubs. Nevertheless, the player didn’t move from Flamengo and continued to make successful appearances as the squad’s starter up until 2013 when he was sent on loan to Russian side Alania. Half a season later he returned to Brazil.
From 2008 to 2010, Welinton made 8 appearances for the Brazil U-20 squad.
