Yuji Nakazawa is a Japanese defender currently playing for Yokohama F. Marinos in the J. League Division 1. He was born on 25 February 1978 in Yoshikawa, Japan.
Yuji was groomed at Japanese youth teams. But at the beginning of his professional career he gained Brazilian football experience with América Mineiro in the 1996/97 season. In 1999, Nakazawa joined a top-flight side Tokyo Verdy. For his outstanding performances during a debut season, a young defender was awarded the J. League Rookie of the Year title. In the 2002 campaign, Nakazawa moved to Yokohama F. Marinos and plays for the team today. As of March 2013, he made a total of 230 appearances. The year 2004 brought him true glory as Nakazawa was instrumental figure in Yokohama’s AFC Asian Cup and J-League victories. His string of terrific performances earned him the Japanese Footballer of the Year and J. League Most Valuable Player awards.
Yuji Nakazawa was a regular international for Japan since 1999 till 2010 amassing 110 caps to the national team. He was a pillar of the team who won two Asian Cups in 2000 and 2004.
