Club América, or Club de Fútbol América S.A. de C.V, is a Mexican football club located in Mexico City. It is nicknamed Águilas, which means the Eagles. It was established in 1916, when the students of Colegio Mascarones and Colegio Marista De La Perpetua decided to form a competitive team. In order to participate in the Mexican Football League, they needed to win three matches to enter the league. They won two and drew the third thus succeeding to become a member of the Liga Mayor De La Ciudad. During the 1920s the team was strong enough and many América’s played were called up to the national squad, competing in the 1928 Olympics and 1930 World Cup.
In 1942/43 the Liga Mayor was founded but América wasn’t as strong as it used to be earlier. Then they had two successful leagues in the 1970s, won the tournament in 1970/71 and 1975/76. They were CONCACAF Champions’ Cup winners in 1977.
