History and achievements
FC Bayern Munich was founded in 1900. It’s the most titled team in Germany as it has won 15 German Cups and 22 champion titles. Bayern played its first match on April 4, 1900. The squad consisted of students and till mid 1930s was a leader in local region only. At that time part of the players and coaches were compelled to leave the club because of Hitler’s discrimination policy.
The comeback of Bayern happened in mid 1950s when it won the National Cup. Bundesliga (a regular championship) was organized in 1963 and in 1965 Bayern started to play there. That year the team finished the 3rd. Being the National Cup winner it played against Glasgow Rangers and defeated them by 1-0.
The next prominent trophy was the Champions Cup in 1974. The decisive match versus Atletico was clinched by Bavarian side 4-0. After that FC Bayern repeated this achievement 2 times running. Being the best team in Europe for three times in a row is a remarkable record indeed. In 1980s FC Bayern claimed most of the titles in Germany. It got 6 Bundesliga titles and 3 German National Cup titles.
In 1990s the club wasn’t quite successful. National championship, the UEFA Cup titles and a dramatic Champions League final of 1999 are worth mentioning. In the match against Manchester United Bayern was 1 goal ahead with 3 minutes to play when its rivals managed to score 2 goals and snatched the victory. The German players couldn’t help crying after the final whistle.
In 2000s the club was quite stable and performed well: 3 Bundesliga titles, 3 National Cups. In 2001 the team won the Champions League and in 2010 and 2012 played in the final of the top European tournament. The history of FC Bayern Munich is one of the most successful and glorious among all German clubs.
