History and achievements
Fenerbahçe is a Turkish football club from Istanbul founded on May 7, 1907.
In 1959 Fenerbahçe became the first official Turkish champion and in the 1960s it was the country’s most successful club: they won five championships out of ten during that decade. In the 1970s the team won another 3 titles and in the 1980s – 4 more. The 1990’s decade was not that successful as ‘Sari Kanaryalar’ managed to win only one title; however, in the 2000s the club could boast 4 trophies. In the 2007/2008 season Fenerbahçe made it to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
The team was excluded from the 2011/2012 UEFA Champions League due to prior involvement in some fixed matches, which still does not depreciate the fact Fenerbahçe is the current Turkish Super Lig champion.
