FC Nürnberg (Nuremberg) was founded in 1900. They are nine-fold German champions with the last triumph delivered in 1968. That year Nurnberg made a double winning clinching the Intertoto Cup as well. The club came first in the championship of Southern Germany 7 times and clinched the Southern Germany Cup twice.
Nürnberg is a four-fold champion of the German Cup and two times winner of the Southern German Cup. Four times the club reigned in Oberliga Sud, and in 1907 it was the Champion of the region of Bayern.
Such players as Max Morlock, Andreas Kopke, Stefan Reuter, Toni Sahne, Angelos Charisteas and Ivan Saenko played for the team. Local players Max Morlock and Andreas Kopke became World Champions.
In 2007 Nürnberg won the German Cup but left the strongest German league one season later.
Both Arminia and Nurnberg share the doubtful record in the number of relegations from top division, they were sent down 6 times each.
The German Cup final of 1927 against Hertha was the first match in the country broadcasted on the radio.
Nürnberg triumphed in both first after-war championships in 1920 and 1948.
The club is the second most-honored one in Germany with only Bayern Munich having more silverware.
