The Greek football club Veria was founded in 1960 in the city of Veroia after the merger of two local teams. Due to its location in the northern part of Greece, Veria FC got the nickname Queen of the North.
The club competed in Greek lower leagues for a long time. Their latest run into the Greek Superleague dates back to the 2007/08 season. But having finished 15th in the league table then, Veria relegated to the second tier called Beta Ethniki. The next season, the team slumped to a new low as they finished 16th and tumbled to the Gamma Ethniki. In the 2009/10 campaign, the club fought their way back to the second division having finished atop of the Gamma Ethniki North Group. In the 2011/12 campaign, Veria became a runner-up in the newly formed Football League and won back their ticket to the Superleague Greece for the 2012/13 season.
Veria play their home games at Veria Stadium which can hold up to 7,000 people.
