Ashley Errol Williams was born on 23 August 1984 in Wolverhampton, England. His career started in several English side clubs: West Bromwich Albion, Belgrave Bullets and Tamworth, where he performed for the youth teams till 2001.
In 2001 Ashley penned his first senior contract with Hednesford Town and was a reserve player during three seasons in the club. He lacked playing time and managed to make only 34 appearances.
In 2003 Williams completed a move to English side Stockport County on a five-year deal. His career was given a second wind there as the footballer became a regular and showed stellar performance. Ashley took part in 162 games and netted three goals for the club.
In March 2008 the footballer went on loan to Swansea City till the end of the 2007/2008 season. After the end of the loan spell, the management decided to secure his services on permanent basis. In November 2009, Williams was voted the best player of the club in Wales. He always developed his skills and did not skip a single game out of about 200 ones except when the footballer needed a rest.
From 2008 Williams was capped 34 times for the Wales national team.
