Christian Wilhelmsson is a Swedish midfielder currently playing for the UAE Pro-League side Baniyas SC. He was born on 8 December 1979 in Malmö.
Christian started out his professional career with a Swedish second-division side Mjällby in 1997. Since 2000 till 2003, he played for Norwegian club Stabæk amassing 25 goals in 84 appearances for the period. After that, Wilhelmsson spent three seasons in Anderlecht jersey making 14 goals in 90 matches and helping the Belgian side to win the Belgian Pro League in the 2003/04 and 2005/06 campaign. In 2006, the winger moved to France to join Nantes, however, having played only 13 matches in the 2006/07 season, he was sent on loan to AS Roma and pulled off the season as the Coppa Italia winner together with the club.
In 2008, Wilhelmsson made a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. It was to his immense credit that the club won the Saudi Professional League and the Crown Prince Cup in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons. His strong performances earned a Swedish midfielder two Saudi Professional League Silver Boots in these two campaigns.
In 2012, Wilhelmsson had a short spell at American Los Angeles Galaxy but moved to the United Arab Emirates shortly after. There he joined Baniyas SC in the UAE Pro-League and plays there today.
Christian Wilhelmsson is a regular international for Sweden since 2001. He was part of the national team during the UEFA Euro 2004, Euro 2008 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
