Cristian Rodríguez is a midfielder who plays for the national team of Uruguay and Atlético Madrid. He was born on September 30, 1985 in Juan Lacaze.
Cristian began his career at Peñarol and played there for 3 years. During that period of his life the main coach of the team let Rodríguez start only from time to time considering the youngster didn’t have enough qualification to perform at professional level. The player made some useful issues from the situation and started to work a lot harder.
Such obstinacy led to the interest from across the ocean and as a result Cristian signed for PSG penning a 3-year deal. During 2 seasons Rodríguez was involved in 36 games mostly as a substitute. Though Cristian wasn’t in the starting squad he had the coach’s credit as Rodríguez was a reliable type of the player.
Then in the summer of 2007 Cristian went on a 1-year loan to Benfica. That was a fruitful period of his career as he made 24 appearances with 6 goals.
One year was enough for him to attract attention of another Portuguese giant Porto. This club made a generous offer both to the player and PSG, as a result the player signed a contract and stayed with the club until the end of the season 2011/12 making in total 70 appearances and scoring 12 times. Those results made Atlético Madrid consider the transfer of the Uruguayan midfielder.
Cristian Rodríguez played in 9 games and scored 5 goals for the U-20 national team. Rodríguez has performed for the senior internationals since 2003. He has made 47 appearances with 4 goals.
