Ibrahim Afellay is a FC Barcelona attacking midfielder. He was born on April 2, 1986 in Utrecht, Netherlands.
Ibrahim’s youth career featured the PSV Eindhoven academy which is one of the best in Netherlands. For 7 years Afellay was one of the most talented guys in the academy and aspired to join the club’s first team.
In 2003, Ibrahim’s dream came true and he got an opportunity to play for the club’s main squad. Moreover, he signed his first ever professional contract. Starting from the 2003/04 season he began to appear occasionally in the team’s main squad and gradually his game time in the club grew. Over the 8 years in PSV Eindhoven Afellay played in 159 matches and scored 35 goals.
After 8 years of successful display Afellay got an offer from FC Barcelona. It was the first time in his career that Ibrahim had to move to another country to demonstrate his talent in the world’s strongest club. Starting from the 2011/12 season Afellay began to frequent the main squad despite the fact the team had quite a number of talented and magnificently skillful footballers.
Afellay was loaned out to Schalke 04 to gain necessary experience for the season 2012/2013.
Since 2007 Afellay has played for the Netherlands national team with 44 appearances and 5 goals scored so far.
