John Egan is a defender, born on 20 October 1992 in Cork, Ireland.
In 2007 John came on a trial to the academy of Cork. After a series of tests and a demonstration game, the footballer was sent to one of youth teams of the club, where he gained his first performing experience, taking part in the junior championship with his squad. During two years, the defender reached the necessary level and could easily move to an older team, which he did in 2009. However, Egan ended his Cork spell with Sunderland move, where he spent two final years of his youth career before his senior one took off.
In 2011 John penned a contract with Sunderland and officially became a professional player of the new club. After making one appearance for ‘The Black Cats’, the footballer went on loan first to Crystal Palace, then to Sheffield United, Bradford and Southend.
In the summer 2014 Egan penned a permanent deal with Gillingham.
Egan’s international début came in the match of the Republic of Ireland national U-17 squad, where he made total two appearances. The footballer was later capped ten times for the U-19 team and two times for the U-21 squad.
