Dutch footballer Jonathan de Guzmán is a player of Spanish side Villarreal. He began his career at the age of 12 in the Feyenoord academy. In 2005 the footballer got to the main team and made his début in the match against SC Heerenveen. On 30 September 2005, Jonathan chipped in his first goal, belting the ball into the net of Willem II in the 9th minute of the game. He started his first season rather actively, making 29 appearances and firing four goals in the 2005/2006 season of Eredivisie, which helped his club to take third place in the top Dutch league.
In April 2008, the footballer extended his contract with Feyenoord till 2010. After the end of the spell, Jonathan moved to Mallorca. On 31 August 2011, the midfielder transferred to Villarreal. On 10 July 2012, de Guzmán was sent on loan to Swansea City.
The thing about the footballer’s international career is that he was lucky to choose the team he wanted. Jonathan was born in Canada, but lived in the Netherlands for a long time. In February 2008, he became a citizen of the Netherlands and opted into ‘The Flying Dutchmen’, which disappointed his native country.
De Guzmán’s début for the national youth team came on 26 March 2008 in the European U-21 Championship qualifier against Estonia, where his team ran out victorious and the footballer contributed greatly to that win.
Jonathan was included in the roster for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and ‘The Oranje’ squad made their way through to the quarterfinals, where lost 2-1 to Argentina.
