Europa League results: Tottenham 3-1 Dnipro, Napoli 3-1 Swansea

Tottenham Hotspur through to the last 16 after a 3-1 victory against Dnipro at White Hart Lane. Swansea out despite leaving Italy with their heads held high.

Spurs needed to turn a one-goal deficit at home against Ukrainian Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk but were unable to threaten the visitors in the first half and things went from bad to worse when Roman Zozulya headed home shortly after the break to put Tottenham on the brink of elimination. Christian Eriksen pulled one back from a free-kick on 56 minutes and then Zozulya was shown the red card for a headbutt on Jan Vertonghen. The Belgian took most of the episode and convinced the French referee Antony Gautier to sent the forward off. It turned out to be a crucial moment as Emmanuel Adebayor netted a brace in the space of just seven minutes to put Spurs through to the last 16 where they are set for Benfica clash.

Swansea City fought hard against Rafael Benitez’ Napoli and were close to positive result. Jonathan De Guzman equalized after Lorenzo Insigne opener and the Welsh side stood firm until 78 minutes when Gonzalo Higuain put the hosts ahead. Garry Monk made his players fight till the end and they pressed Napoli till the end of the match. However, Gokhan Inler caught the visitors on counter-attack deep into the added time to see the Italian side through.
