Foluwashola ‘Shola’ Ameobi is a forward, born on 12 October 1981 in Zaria, Nigeria.
At the age of five Shola moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He began to play football in Walker Central Boys Club, where Newcastle scouts noticed the future striker when he was 13.
On 1 July 1995, Shola joined the club’s academy. On 11 October 1998, Ameobi made his debut for the reserve team. On 9 September 2000, the footballer made his first appearance for the main team.
At the end of 2005/2006 the striker became a regular and scored six goals in 12 Premier League matches.
In 2006/2007 Shola needed a thigh surgery, because the injury kept him on alert during all previous season. After the surgery Ameobi was out of action till the end of the season, but managed to take part in 12 matches and net five goals.
All in all, Shola netted 79 goals in 396 matches for The Toon. In 2014 he was released from the club.
