Vasilis Torosidis is a Greek footballer born on 10 June 1985 in Xanthi, Greece. He currently plays in defense for the Italian heavyweights A.S. Roma.
Vasilis began his football grooming at a hometown side Skoda Xanthi before joining the first team of the parent club in 2002. Having made 86 impressive appearances for the club during a five-year stint, Torosidis sparked interest of the top Greek clubs AEK Athens, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. He eventually opted for Olympiacos in January 2007. On 21 January, Torosidis scored his maiden goal against PAOK. After Antonis Nikopolidis retired in April 2011, Vasilis got the captain’s armband. He recorded five Superleague victories, three Greek Cup wins and the 2007 Greek Super Cup trophy for his spell at Olympiacos. At the beginning of 2013 Vasilis signed a five-year deal with Italian Roma.
Vasilis Torosidis is a regular international for Greece since 2007. He made his debut in a Euro 2008 qualifier against Turkey and cored his maiden international goal in a match against Luxembourg during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
