History and achievements
Melbourne City FC is an Australian football club, founded in 2008. The club has a professional status and is based in Melbourne, Victoria. It joined the A-League before the 2010/2011 season, becoming the 12th club, which received the A-League license. The AAMI Park stadium is the club’s home arena, which can house up to 30,050 football fans. The club’s philosophy was based on youth development, favoring homegrown players. The club’s colors are red and white, similar to the emblem of the city of Melbourne.
The club occupied the sixth position for the most of their first season in the Australian top division, but eventually finished 8th. It happened due to a run of seven consecutive games without a win, which happened in the middle of the season. One draw and six defeats, coupled with five goalless hours on the pitch hit their mid-table finish chances hard. The next season the club was able to reach the A-League Finals series, but was unable to make a use of its chances losing all the games. As a result, the returned to the sixth position in the league table, which is currently considered as their top achievement.
In 2014 the club was acquired by English giants, Manchester City, and rebranded into Melbourne City FC.
