Shrewsbury Town is a professional football club that was established in 1886 after the demise of the clubs Shropshire Wanderers and Castle Blues.
The most successful run of the team in the regional competitions dates back to the season 1937/1938 when they clinched the Midland Champions League title and cup treble. The pre-war history of the club also boasts the Welsh Cup and the Shropshire Senior Cup.
During the post-war seasons the side was admitted to the Division 3 (North) of the Football League after clinching the Midland League champions in the season 1949/1950. They spent 15 seasons in the third tier and were relegated to Division Four at the end of 1973/1974.
The most successful run of the team in the cup competitions was in the season 1960/1961 as they reached the semi-final stage. The team also became Football League Trophy runners up 1996.
The main rivals of the team are Walsall and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The home stadium is called New Meadow and it can hold up to 9,875 supporters. The club’s nickname is the Salop.
