Yeovil Town

History and achievements

Yeovil Town is a professional football club that was established in 1895 under the name Yeovil Casuals.

The most successful run of the club in the FA Cup dates back to the season 1948/1949 when the team defeated Sunderland in the fourth round, yet in the following stage they lost to Manchester United 8-0.

Yeovil Town claimed the title of the Southern Football League three times in the period between 1955 and 1973.

In June 2001 the team captured the FA Trophy defeating Stevenage Borough 2-0 in the final. In the following campaign the side earned promotion to the Football League. In the season 2006/2007 Yeovil finished fifth in the tournament and qualified to the League One play-off, where they won Nottingham Forest in the semi-final, but were defeated by Blackpool in the final.

In May 2013 the club celebrated their best ever achievement by reaching the Championship through play-offs, beating Sheffield United and Brentford. However, Yeovil Town did not survive in their first season.

The home stadium is the Huish Park that can sit 9,565 supporters. The nickname of the team is the Glovers.
