Ajax Alderweireld keen on Liverpool move

Ajax centre-back Toby Alderweireld revealed he relishes an opportunity of moving to Premier League club, however stated he would prefer joining Liverpool rather than underperforming Newcastle side.

24-year-old Alderweireld has moved through the youth ranks of Beerschot and Ajax before signing his first senior contract with the Dutch side. He has made 119 appearances scoring 7 goals in the period of 2008-2012, winning two Eredivisie titles with his club.

Alderweireld said: “I do not want to play in an English club in mid-table. Unlike Newcastle, Liverpool meets my criteria.”

Liverpool are likely to snap up the player in a cut-price deal worth of £8 million, as his contract is set to expire in 2014.
