Who Will Win The Champions League? The Contenders

For anyone that watches the Premier League, they may already have the answer to this question. After all, when Manchester City win a trophy, they usually carry on winning it for some time.

In the past few years we’ve seen them win a hat-trick of Premier League trophies and a quadruple of League Cups. They even replicated Manchester United’s what seemed impossible treble last term.

So, it’s fair to say that Pep Guardiola’s men will be right up there come the end of the season. However, the Champions League is a little different isn’t it? After all, the likes of Bayern, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all capable of such runs in their own domestic competitions.

It’s a little more like spinning a roulette wheel on who will win the competition, especially at this early stage of the season. The ball could land anywhere. You may win a jackpot on the likes of casino777.nl, you may not. And the same can be said for where you put your money in Europe’s premier competition.

The four teams mentioned above have all had perfect starts to the competition, with six points out of six. So, let’s take a look at the favourites…

The Major Contenders

Manchester City are favourites for the title with most bookies at 21/10. However, since 1990 only Real Madrid have defended their crown successfully in the competition, which would suggest that it’s going to be a mightily difficult feat for the Blues.

Especially with Bayern looking in pretty scintillating form. Harry Kane has proven, as you’d expect, an excellent addition to the side, netting nine in his first 10 appearances for the club. The Germans are second favourites, having picked up close wins over Manchester United and Copenhagen so far.

From there, it gets a little more interesting. Real Madrid and Barcelona will of course be contenders. They always are. Real are priced around 7/1 and their Catalonian rivals at 10/1, but is there scope for any other sides to come through and cause a bit of a shock?

The Outsiders

Well, yes. Arsenal could well be serious contenders. They came close to winning the Premier League last year under Mikel Arteta, they’ve strengthened in the summer, and had an excellent start to the season.

Thierry Henry has suggested it could be too soon, which could be true, particularly following defeat to Lens, but at 17/2 it’s certainly a handy bet to place.

PSG aren’t the side they once were, but with Kylian Mbappe as a main focal point, without the circus around Lionel Messi and Neymar, they could click, while Newcastle have proven they can mix it with the big guns after thumping the Parisians 4-1.

It’s going to be interesting to see just how these outsiders do, particularly come the knockout stages and upsets could potentially be on the cards in the latter rounds if any of these sides find their groove.

Ultimately, though, Manchester City and Bayern are the teams to beat.
