Arsenal close to signing Higuain

Arsenal long-term target Gonzalo Higuain is on the brink of making a switch to the Emirates stadium from Real Madrid, as striker is believed to have agreed personal terms with London side.

The 25-year-old Argentinian has reportedly agreed a contract worth £130,000 per week, as Arsenal are looking to smash their transfer record and pay around £22 million for the player. They will also require reconsidering their wage structure, as high-paid players like Walcott will probably demand wage parity with Higuain, despite having recently agreed a lucrative contract.

Higuain has been linked with a move at the Emirates stadium for about a year however Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who is known for obsession with value, was reluctant to pay in excess of £30 million for the striker. Now, as the transfer fee for the Argentinian has dropped, the Frenchman decided to meet Real Madrid demands and bring the highly-rated player to London.

Should the deal go through, this will be the seen as a major statement of intent to the fans, who became weary of Gunners’ lack of ambition recently.

Higuain himself is believed to be keen on prospect of moving to the Premier League after having completed two rounds of negotiations with Wenger, who is willing to complete the deal before club’s Far East tour.
