Arsenal flop Arshavin re-signed for Zenit

Attacking midfielder Andrey Arshavin has completed his re-signing for Zenit St. Petersburg, after his deal with the Gunners has expired.

The 32-year-old Russia international, who made a record-breaking £15 million switch to the Emirates stadium from Zenit in 2009, struggled to regain full fitness in several last seasons and fell out of favour with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

The Russian made in excess of 140 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 31 goals during his five-year spell with the North London club. Arshavin will be always remembered for his four goals in the Premier League 4-4 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

Arshavin revealed he is delighted to have returned to Russis, saying: “I am very glad that it happened. I am glad to get back to the city. It’s good to wear the Zenit shirt. I just want to play football.

“Of course, I want to return to the national team. I do not know whether being at Zenit helps this or not. I just want to play football. And I want to do it in my hometown,” he added.
