Cape Verde Islands reach the African Nations Cup finals

The team of Cape Verde defeated Cameroon on Sunday and earned a place at the African Nations Cup.

The squad that represents the country with a population of 500,000 stunned football fans defeating the former World Cup quarter-finalists Cameroon 3-2 on aggregate. The team celebrated a 2-0 victory in the first match and expected a tough away leg, yet the second game was relatively easy for a small team.

Cape Verde added to their lead at 22 minute when Heldon scored from the free-kick. Cameroon player Achille Emana found the target minutes later, yet the side did not manage to change its fortune and score three more goals for qualifying further. Despite firing a goal minutes before time, Cameroon lost the match and now will miss the Nations Cup.
