Champions League preview: Barcelona vs Bayern Munich

Champions League preview: Barcelona vs Bayern Munich

Barcelona will be hoping to make one of the greatest comebacks ever in their Champions League semi-final second leg at Camp Nou, as they need to overturn four goals deficit after suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in Germany.

No team in Europe managed to progress to the next stage of the major tournament after losing 4-0, however Barca proved they have what it takes to beat any opposition by hammering Milan 4-0 after losing 2-0 at San Siro.

Barcelona recent form:

Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw by resilient Athletic Bilbao at San Mames, with Herrera scoring equalizing goal in the dying stages of the game.

Bayern Munich recent form:

Shaqiri’s goal allowed Bayern Munich securing a 1-0 victory over Freiburg and setting Bundesliga points record.

Despite making 10 changes to the side that thrashed Barcelona in Champions league semi-final first leg 4-0, the Bavarians managed to secure their 27th win in 31 Bundesliga games. Xherdan Shaqiri scored from free-kick to put Bayern on 84 points, surpassing record of 81 points set by Borussia Dortmund’s last season with three games to go.

Barcelona team news:

Adriano has served his one-match ban during the first leg against German giants and is expected to feature in the forthcoming clash.
Javier Mascherano remains a major doubt, as he has just returned to training after knee injury, while Carlos Puyol remains sidelined with a long-term knee problem.

Jordi Alba is set to miss the game due to being suspended.

Bayern Munich team news:

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes said he does not plan to bench key players, who have yellow cards and risk missing the final if they be booked on Wednesday.

Six key players are just one card away from missing Wembley final, including Martinez, Gustavo, Gomez, Schweinsteiger and Lahm.

Toni Kroos remains on team’s long-term injury list with thigh problem, while Mario Mandzukic could feature in the starting XI after serving his suspension.
