Chelsea's Courtois is determined to avoid backup role

Chelsea's Courtois is determined to avoid backup role

Chelsea’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is currently playing on-loan at Atletico Madrid, does not wish to return to his parent club just to sit on the bench behind Petr Cech.

Courtois joined Chelsea from Genk in 2011, but was loaned out to Atletico Madrid to fill David De Gea’s boots, where he has developed into quality player. Courtois managed to keep 24 clean sheets both for club and country this season and is determined to avoid the substitute role at Chelsea, as he completes his loan spell in Spain.

The 20-year-old Belgium international revealed: “I don’t know where I am going to be playing next season, but I know the options. My agent is discussing things with Chelsea. Certain factors come into it. In any case, I want to play in a team where I will be on the pitch and not on the bench.”
