The impressive performance by Mario Mandzukic helped Bayern grab three points in the game against Mainz and extend their lead at the top of Bundesliga to 12 points.
Mandzukic is the new lethal force in the Munich side this season with the player climbing on top of the top scorers pool and scoring in the second game for the Jupp Heynckes team. Bayern was put ahead in the match courtesy of Thomas Mueller shot on 40 minutes, while Mandzukic added two more goals and helped the side to secure 9th away victory in 10 matches.
Bayern head coach Jupp Heynckes was pleased after the game claiming the team was prepared for the tough clash. “We showed that we have fun playing football. This was a big win towards the title, ” underlined the manager.
The reigning German champions Borussia Dortmund met with second standing Bayer Leverkusen and were two goals up before the half time with shots by Marco Reus and Jakub Blaszczykowski. The host side pulled back in the second half with Reinartz firing home two times but in the end it was Lewandowski who netted the third one for Borussia.
Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp stated after the game that Leverkusen were a difficult opponent. “The two sides forced each other to make mistakes. Despite not being concentrated enough in some actions in the first half we showed a lot of courage after the equalizer,” added the German tactician .
The Dortmund side claimed their fourth successive victory and with 39 points reached the second place in the table.
