Manchester United to launch £20 m bid for Everton Baines

Manchester United boss David Moyes is looking to raid his former club Everton to try and lure highly-rated player Lieghton Baines to Old Trafford, and is prepared to table around £20 million for the signature of the left-back.

The Red Devils have reportedly seen their initial bid of £12 million rejected by Everton, as the Toffees insist the 28-year-old England international is not for sale.

But Moyes is looking to tempt Everton with a lucrative offer of £20m plus additional performance-related payments. However new Toffees boss Roberto Martinez considers Baines to be an integral part of his plans and is determined to hold onto services of the player. According to the recent reports, he wants to offer the left-back a new deal worth £70,000 per week.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright insists Baines is set to remain at the club: ‘Leighton is under contract and I’ve told David not to come back for him, although there is nothing to stop him. He knows we want him to stay.’

The player has two years remaining on his deal and hopes to earn a call-up ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He is also reluctant to leave the Goodison Park without the guarantees he would be given his share of first-team football. However the lure of Champions league football could be too strong to resist.
