Miyaichi injury worry for Wigan

Wigan are sweating over injury suffered by their winger Ryo Miyaichi.

Although they are still awaiting the results of his medical assessment to enquire about the seriousness of his injury, it looks like Miyaichi will be out for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old Japanese was carried off on a stretcher after a tough challenge with Kevin Mirallas in Wigan 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday. The injuries have limited the number of Miyaichi’s Wigan first-team appearances to seven, since his joining to Latics from Arsenal on a season-long deal.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez revealed: “It was a terrible challenge. We are waiting on the scan but we are not very positive on it. We think it will need a long recovery period and maybe he will even need surgery. We need to be a little bit expecting the bad news. He is very fortunate he has not got a broken leg because of the nature of the challenge. We feel he ruptured the ligaments. We will have to wait and see but he doesn’t seem to have an opportunity to finish the season.”
