Schalke set to bid for Borussia Santana

Schalke set to bid for Borussia Santana

Schalke confirmed they are seriously considering the possibility of landing Borussia Dortmund defender Felipe Santana.

The Brazilian who netted the dramatic match-winning goal in the dying stages of the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Malaga has two years remaining on his contract at Westfaliastadion.

The 27-year-old defender failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at Borussia Dortmund, due to impressive form of Hummels and Subotic.

After Christoph Metzelder decided to hang up his boots at the end of the season, Schalke are actively looking for replacement. Horst Heldt considers Santana to be a perfect candidate to fill Metzelder’s boots. He said: “We are interested in signing this player (Felipe Santana). Due to the circumstances, his current club still have matches to play. We will not reveal or confirm anything in this matter. We fully respect this club (Dortmund).”

However Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to sell the Brazilian for anything less than £1 million.
