Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City leave it late to make it to the next round of Capital One Cup

Tottenham Hotspur beat Hull City on penalties for the second time in four days.

Gylfi Sigurdsson opened the scoring early in game with a superb long-range effort. Hull City equalized courtesy of Brad Friedel’s own goal in the second half. Paul McShane put the Tigers ahead as the game went on in extra time but Harry Kane levelled 12 minutes to the end to secure penalty shoot-out. It was Ahmed El Mohamady who missed the decisive penalty and allowed Andre Villas-Boas to reach the quarterfinals.

Manchester City also had to play extra time to knock out Alan Pardew’s Newcastle. Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko scored on 99 and 105 minutes to see the City get to the last eight in the tournament.
