World Cup 2014 qualifiers’ preview: France vs Georgia

World Cup 2014 qualifiers’ preview: France vs Georgia

France are desperate to bag maximum points in the match against Georgia thus making one more step from the group where their main opponents are the running World Cup champions Spain.

The progress of Didier Deschamps’ team in the pool was quite successful so far as the side defeated Finland 1-0 and Belarus 3-1 and held Spain to a draw 1-1 courtesy of a late goal of Olivier Giroud. The return match against La Furia Roja will be the most significant in their run, yet before that Deschamps should take most from the clash against Georgia at the Stade de France on Friday.

The French tactician is expected to give the chance to some young players who only embark on their international career most notably Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba who are likely to transform into future cornerstones of the side, though the 1998 World Cup holders are also packed with highly experienced Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery who made 71 appearances for the side, as well as Karim Benzema (55 caps), Patrice Evra (48) and Hugo Lloris (44).

Georgia overcame Albania 2-1 in their last friendly fixture, yet the draws against Egypt and Finland should be mentioned as well, but World Cup qualification run ended for the team in Minsk in autumn where they lost to Belarus 2-0.
