Roberto Di Matteo has been sacked
The Italian manager has left the post of Chelsea’s head coach after their 0-3 loss at Juventus in the Champions League this Tuesday.
Under the rule of Roman Abramovich since 2003 the London club was guided by eight managers.
Di Matteo was appointed assistant coach to André Villas-Boas in June 2011 and when the latter one was sacked in March 2012 Di Matteo was named the interim coach until the end of the season. At that time Chelsea was in good form and he filled Villas-Boas’s shoes in spring and shortly after that the team won the 2012 UEFA Champions League title and FA Cup. In June he was appointed the manager signing a two-year contract.
The beginning of the 2012/13 season hasn’t been such a success. The Blues are currently placed third in the Premier League table and the Champions League title holders leave the tournament after the group stage.
