Getafe Football Club established in 1983 for the second time after being dismissed in 1982 is one of the youngest teams in Spanish football and has not achieved significant results yet. They got relegated from La Liga quite frequently but always made the way back to the top division. Lately Getafe has proved to be a strong opponent and the big clubs are aware of Getafe’s spirit while confronting this young and ambitious club.
Getafe never had serious financial support thus being a Cup fighter mostly. It punished Barcelona in the Spanish Cup and reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup. They could have beaten Bayern Munich and progress to semi-finals if they were a little bit luckier. On their home ground they are ready to thrash any big club. The club’s footballers fight fearlessly on the pitch and follow every command of the manager which enables them to perform quite well without huge expenses. The supporters of the club are always united and well-organized. They always support their team both at home and away.
The most notable persons who ever performed for the club are Roberto Soldado, Pablo Hernandez, Ruben de la Red, Daniel Guiza, Gabi, Raul Albiol, Mariano Pernia, Luis Aragones, Maris Verpakovskis, Ilshat Faizulin.
The team had been managed by numerous coaches though the one that contributed a lot to development of a young squad was Berndt Schuster who would soon leave the club for Real Madrid.
Getafe managed to make its way through to the final stage of the Spanish Cup twice but both times they lost.
