History and achievements
Torino is a football club from Turin, Italy. Established in 1906 by former Juventus member Alfredo Dick and the Swiss businessman Hans Schoenbrod the team started competing in the Italian championship in the 1920s and claimed its first title in the season 1927/1928. After that remarkable victory five more Scudetto titles followed and the team was called in the country ‘Il Grande Torino’ (i.e. the Great Torino) and was perceived as the best team in Italy. The Torino of that period set records that still remain unbeaten in Serie A such as 4 consecutive seasons without defeat at home or greatest ever home win 10-0 over Alessandria. The great era abruptly ended on 4 May 1949 as the plane carrying the team collided with a mountain and the legendary squad lost all players but one.
During the following three decades Torino managed to revive and in the season 1975/1976 it claimed the Italian title once more, though the 1980s and 1990s saw the team rotating between Seria A and Seria B.
The last major trophies are the1993 Coppa Italia and the 1991 Mitropa Cup. In the 1991/1992 UEFA Cup campaign Torino reached the final but was defeated in the ultimate match by Ajax.
In the season 2004/2005 Torino received promotion to the top tier but the club faced financial problems and was dissolved. The team was rebuilt the following year and gradually climbed to the highest level of Italian football receiving promotion to the top tier after the season 2011/2012.
The colors of the home kit are claret and white.
The longstanding rival is their crosstown neighbours Juventus.
The nicknames of the club are the Clarets and the Bull.
