Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi released a statement, denying accusations of tax fraud, following reports that Spanish taxation body are probing allegations that he and his father deceived the state by underreporting £3.4 million.

According to the media reports the 25-year-old Argentinian forward and his father Jorge Horacio, were suspected of filling fraudulent tax returns between 2007 and 2009

Messi refused to admit he defrauded the state in a statement issued on his official Facebook page. It read: We have just known through the media about the claim filed by the Spanish tax authorities.

“We are surprised about the news, because we have never committed any infringement.

“We have always fulfilled all our tax obligations, following the advice of our tax consultants, who will take care of clarifying this situation.”
