Cardiff won Premier League promotion

Cardiff won Premier League promotion

Cardiff City needed just a point in their Championship home clash against Charlton to guarantee themselves the Premier League promotion with three games to go and the Welsh side has duly delivered.

David Marshall made a string of quality saves to deny Charlton’s attempts of breaking the deadlock and earn a crucial scoreless draw for his team. The team has opened up a seven-point gap over the second-placed Hull City, outstripping the third-placed Watford by 13 points.

Cardiff fans flooded onto the pitch in jubilation after the final whistle, as Cardiff reached the top flight for the first time since 1962. It will be the first time in the history of English football that two Welsh sides will be playing in top-tier with Wales already in Premier League.
