Asia’s matchday 5 was resplendent with the surprise hard-fought 2-1 win of Australia over Iraq in Doha. The Australians came from behind with two late goals from Tim Cahill in the 80th minute and from Archie Thompson four minutes after. Another shock win came from Oman who beat blithe Jordan by the same 2-1 scoreline on home soil. The Omani men built up an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 87th minute of the clash. However, Thaer Bawab squeezed in a consolation goal in the dying minutes. The Uzbekistani team savoured their first victory over Qatar and Iran’s captain brought a 1-0 win over Korea Republic to his team.

Iraq 1-2 Australia
Oman 2-1 Jordan

Costa Rica cemented their place in the final round with a terrific thrashing Guyana 7-0 and Mexico continued an unbeaten path with a 2-0 win over El Salvador. Canada missed their bite at the cherry to book a place in the final round as they shamefully lost 1-8 to Honduras. Cuba and Panama ended in a lackluster 1-1 draw.
