Nemanja Vidic is out of action for eight weeks

Manchester United loses the key defender.

Nemanja Vidic made complaints of tightness in his right knee just before the match against Liverpool on Sunday and was not included by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the starting 11.

After a medical examination a more significant problem was revealed, thus the player was sent for an operation.
The official announcement of the club states that Vidic had a meniscus operation on his right knee.

Vidic missed most of the previous season after sustaining the rupture of the cruciate knee ligament.
