Premier League news: Van Persie made up missed penalty

In spite of missed penalty saved by Kelvin Davis, the £24m signing, Van Persie, helped Manchester United to 3-2 victory over Southampton with all three goals.

Rickie Lambert scored an opener on the 16th minute before Van Persie cancelled it out in seven minutes. The hosts regained a narrow lead after Morgan Schneiderlin scored their second goal.

The Red Devils couldn’t but leave Sir Alex Ferguson’s 1000th league game as the manager of United without victory. The Holland striker produced a goal six minutes from time and a hat-trick in injury time, he has become a hero bringing his team from behind.

New Arsenal signings Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla both scored their first goals for the Gunners one in each half-time. They secured an awesome 2-0 victory over Liverpool.

Newcastle United claimed a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, while Yaya Toure, Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez brought Manchester City a convincing 3-1 victory over QPR at the Etihad Stadium.

West Ham won Fulham 3-0 and West Brom claimed 2-0 victory over Everton. Wigan ended 2-2 draw with Stoke, as well as Swansea, who earned 2-2 draw against Sunderland.

A late equalizer saw Tottenham draw with Norwich.
