History and achievements
Millwall is an English football club from south east London. Millwall Rovers were created by the workers of J.T. Morton's factory in 1885. In 1920 the current name of the team was adopted.
Before the Second World War the team was known as one of the major clubs in the country and as a strong Cup side that played in various memorable matches. The impact of the Second World War on the club was devastating - the team lost many young players and could not retain its position. The club managed to recapture its status only in the 1960s. At that time they set the record of 59 home matches without defeat (43 wins and 16 draws) from August 1964 to January 1967.
The early 1970s are remembered by the fans as one of the most successful period in the teams’ history. "The Class of '71" as the team was nicknamed included such players as Bryan King, Harry Cripps, Derek Possee, Eamon Dunphy and many others that formed one of the most remarkable Millwall squads ever. In the 1980s the club earned its first promotion to the top tier of English football, two decades after though Millwall suffered a decline and fell into the third tier.
The main color of the team is blue and that refers to the Scottish roots of the side. The nicknames of the club are the Lions and the Dockers. The home ground is called the Den and it has a capacity of 20,146.
