History and achievements
English football teams of the First Division play in Premier League.
The League was founded in 1992 when the strongest teams of the First Division decided to leave the English Football League and set up their own League. This League is a corporation of 20 clubs, which are shareholders. The aims of the League are the development of the English football and, what is very important, organization of championships of the Premier League.
Today the Premier League includes 20 strongest football clubs in England. The season lasts from August to May. During this period each team plays twice with each opponent: one game a team plays on its home playing field, the other is played on opponent’s field. All in all each football club plays 38 games a season.
A team gets 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and no points for a loss. The team that gains the largest amount of points wins the Champion’s title. The last three teams at the end of the season leave the Premier League and the best teams from the Championship, which is in fact the second strongest league, take their places.
Manchester United is an absolute leader among all Premier League clubs. It has won 13 Premier League titles in 20 years. Chelsea and Arsenal have three titles each, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City won once.
Fans all over the world keep up with the games of the Premier League. English Premier League is the most attended and profitable football championship in the world. Any footballer takes pride in playing at a Premier League club.
